Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
The proposal for the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce + Industry (ADCCI) presents a radically innovative architectural vision that reinterprets the existing 21-story headquarters through the introduction of a new 42-story tower, unifying both structures into a single, iconic composition. Together, the two elements form a powerful civic landmark that reinforces the Chamber’s role as a symbol of economic leadership and global commerce within the city.
Rather than treating the existing building as a standalone artifact, the design strategically integrates the original tower into a unified architectural system, establishing clear visual continuity and spatial cohesion. A dramatic exposed steel truss framework spans the void between the tower legs, bridging old and new while creating a monumental portal within the building mass. This structure serves both a load-bearing and symbolic function, expressing transparency, strength, and technological optimism.
The new tower envelope curves gracefully forward, framing the existing structure and enhancing its visibility within the urban skyline. This gesture not only improves visual recognition from multiple viewpoints but also creates a dynamic interplay of solids and voids, light and shadow. The steel truss becomes a defining architectural feature, animating the façade while reinforcing the unity of the overall composition.
At street level, the sculpted base activates the public realm, improving pedestrian flow and establishing a strong relationship between the tower and the surrounding city fabric. Above, the unified vertical expression creates a distinct skyline presence, positioning the ADCCI complex as a recognizable gateway and contemporary symbol of Abu Dhabi’s commercial ambition.
Through its synthesis of structural clarity, architectural symbolism, and urban presence, the Chamber of Commerce Tower embodies a forward-looking vision—one that aligns heritage and progress within a singular, bold architectural identity.
