HOTEL MARQUETTE – Exploration Project

Burrell Architects LLC – Interior Design Team

This project was conceived as a speculative exploration of ideas for contemporary hotel interiors rather than a commissioned or built work. The design investigates how spatial grandeur, material richness, and social flow can come together to redefine the guest experience within a hospitality setting.

Through a series of detailed interior studies, the project explores spatial creativity, scale, and ornamentation—balancing monumentality with intimacy. Elements such as layered stone surfaces, sculptural lighting, and flexible lounge arrangements were developed to propose new ways hotels can function as social destinations as much as places of rest. The focus was on creating memorable, immersive environments that encourage interaction, pause, and visual engagement.

Although the project was never realized physically, it has received significant attention from professionals within the hotel and hospitality industry. The work has been referenced as a strong conceptual prototype, demonstrating how forward-looking design thinking can influence future hotel interiors and brand identities. The project stands as an example of how unbuilt work can still contribute meaningfully to industry dialogue and innovation.
